I’m Anjum Ali Saiyad, and I’m a Londoner blogging about things to do during life in lockdown.
It’s been more than a month since the UK was placed under lockdown to stop the spread of COVID-19. Here’s the latest on what you can and can’t do. Lives all over the UK have changed dramatically, and we’re all trying to figure out how to cope with it.
Lockdown around the world
Okay so it might sound cliché, but the fact is we’re not alone. The whole world is going through the same thing right now. Each country is tackling this pandemic in its own way, from total lockdowns to curfews and social distancing. And we all have similar hopes and fears.
Adapting to life in lockdown
This lockdown is hard, on so many areas of our lives. And I know that my friends and I are finding it hard on our social lives, which is why we’ve been getting inventive about how to have a social life when you can’t be social, so to speak.
We’ve got a Friday night in on Zoom, fantasy football, and beer pong is now an established living room lockdown fixture. Just when we think we’ve watched EVERYTHING there is on TV someone sends us another binge-worthy recommendation. Then there’s a future bucket list of things we’re going to do when we ‘get out’, which is on the kitchen wall and getting longer by the day!
We’ve even started a challenge to see who can get the most food shopping each week with as little budget as possible – it’s getting competitive!
A couple of my housemates are working from home and say it’s hard to stay motivated so we’re improvising morning workouts with anything weighty we can find in the house to get the adrenaline pumping.
